Art Saves Lives is a movement. Twelve years of transforming youth through creativity, culture, and mentorship in St. Maarten and beyond.
The Beginning
Art Saves Lives was founded on a simple but radical belief: that every young person, regardless of their background or resources, deserves access to world-class arts education.
Launched in St. Maarten over twelve years ago, the program was created in response to a clear need: young people with extraordinary creative potential, but limited access to the instruction and mentorship that could unlock it.
From the very first summer intensive, the program drew on the power of visiting artists, cultural exchange, and community to create something transformative: not just a week of classes, but a life-changing experience.
Creativity is not a luxury. It is a lifeline.

The Challenge
Art Saves Lives was created specifically to address barriers that talented young people face in the Caribbean.
Young people in St. Maarten had limited access to elite arts education and structured creative outlets that peers in larger cities take for granted.
Mentorship from working professional artists was virtually nonexistent, leaving talented youth without role models who had navigated careers in the arts.
Exposure to global artistic networks and elite training programs was extremely limited, restricting pathways for young artists in the region.
The Solution
The Art Saves Lives Summer Youth Arts Intensive brings internationally recognized artists and mentors directly to St. Maarten to work with local youth in a week-long immersive experience.
Students participate at no cost, ensuring that financial circumstances never prevent a talented young person from accessing world-class training.
Auditions are used only to place students at appropriate skill levels, not to exclude anyone. Every young person who wants to participate has a path in.
The program concludes with a major public showcase performance: a moment of celebration that honors the growth, courage, and creative power of each student.

What We Believe
We believe creativity is not a luxury but a fundamental human need, especially for young people navigating complex environments.
Caribbean heritage and identity are a source of power. We celebrate culture as the foundation of artistic expression and personal confidence.
No student is turned away for financial reasons. We level the playing field so every young person, regardless of background, can access world-class training.
We bring internationally recognized artists and mentors because youth in St. Maarten deserve nothing less than the best instruction available anywhere in the world.
The arts teach discipline, resilience, and focus. Students leave the program not just as artists but as more capable, confident human beings.
Alumni return as mentors. Students become leaders. The cycle of investment in youth continues and grows with every passing year.
Whether you're a student ready to grow, an artist ready to mentor, or a sponsor ready to invest, there's a place for you in this movement.
